Sen. Elissa Slotkin answered President Trump’s Saturday Truth Social order naming her in a Justice Department probe, saying on X that his “threats of legal action … didn’t work” before and urging him to focus on costs, Iran, tariffs, and health care.
What Slotkin posted
At about 1:47 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat, wrote on X that Trump’s reply to midterm losses was to promote Stephen Miller to chief of staff, “double down” on the same policies, and then “have Stephen draft a tweet threatening to put me in jail.”
“If you break the law or use taxpayer dollars to enrich yourself, you should be held accountable,” she wrote. “If you didn’t break the law, then it’s all good.”
She told Trump his threats “didn’t work when you tried to criminally indict me in front of a grand jury last February,” or when he “threatened it again last month.” She said his focus on corruption and illegal orders “reveals more about you then it does about me.”
She closed by saying that if he cared about Tuesday’s midterm message, he would work to end the war with Iran, end “sloppy tariffs,” and deal with health-care cuts she said take effect Jan. 1. The post attached a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social DOJ order.
What Trump ordered earlier Saturday
Earlier that afternoon, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Democrats were threatening people — including the attorney general — with impeachment and other punishment, and that donors faced imprisonment “just because they happen to be Republicans.” He called that “extortion” and said he was ordering the Justice Department to “look into this criminal act, immediately.” He named Slotkin in the post.
Reuters reported the order Saturday; free coverage on StreetInsider and Just the News carried the same account. Trump did not lay out detailed evidence in the post for the threats he described.
The February grand-jury claim
Slotkin’s indictment claim matches earlier free reporting. According to AP, a Washington, D.C., grand jury in February 2026 declined to indict Slotkin and five other Democratic lawmakers over a video about illegal military orders. Her Senate office issued a statement the same day. Her Saturday post presents that episode as her account of prior threats; Trump has disputed Democratic characterizations of those cases.
No reply yet
As of this writing Saturday afternoon Eastern time, neither Trump nor the White House had publicly replied to Slotkin’s 1:47 p.m. X post. The Justice Department had not posted a separate public response to her reply in free sources checked here. Miller’s elevation to chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles, was announced Friday and is background only.
The exchange comes days after Democrats won both chambers. Trump cast Democratic talk of punishment as criminal “extortion.” Slotkin cast his order as retaliation and a distraction from costs and war. Neither side has produced a public DOJ charging decision tied to Saturday’s posts.
