Trump Orders DOJ to Investigate Democrats Over Alleged Threats, Names Slotkin

On Saturday afternoon, President Trump ordered the Justice Department to investigate Democrats he accused of threatening officials and donors with impeachment and other punishment, calling their actions a “criminal act.”

What Trump posted

Trump wrote on Truth Social that Democrats were “going around threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment,” even though, he said, “they admit they have no reason to do so.”

  • He called that “extortion at the highest level” and “Weaponization and Lawfare at another level.”
  • He said Democrats were also threatening Republican donors with imprisonment “just because they happen to be Republicans, or Republican supporters.”
  • He claimed “threatening letters have been sent to many people, all innocent, from Democrat Political Leaders,” without naming the letters or who sent them.
  • He closed: “By copy of this statement, I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!”

Reuters reported the order on Saturday. Trump did not provide evidence in the post for the threats he described.

Who he named

Trump singled out Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat. He wrote that she “is saying that she is going to go after all young people that believe in Republican Values, and that give even the slightest inclination to be a Republican.” He offered no quote or link backing that claim in the post.

As of Saturday afternoon Eastern time, Slotkin had not publicly answered this Truth Social post in free reporting checked for this article.

The wider fight

The post came days after Democrats won control of both the House and Senate in the midterms. Incoming Democratic majorities have signaled they will investigate the Trump administration, free coverage of the Saturday statement said.

Congress can open impeachment inquiries under the Constitution. Trump framed talk of impeachment and punishment as illegal “extortion.” Oversight tools the majority can use are not, by themselves, crimes. Trump’s post asked the Justice Department to treat the conduct he alleged as a criminal matter.

What we know — and don’t

  • Confirmed: Trump posted the order on Truth Social on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, and Reuters reported it the same day.
  • Not shown in the post: Specific letters, senders, or evidence for the Slotkin claim.
  • No public response yet: Slotkin and top Democratic leaders had not issued a clear reply to this Saturday post by mid-afternoon Eastern time.

Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Justice Department had not posted a public reply to the order in that same window.
